Have you survived the Christmas sugar bonanza? How does all the sugar make you feel? My body does not do well with lots of sugar so I need to be careful… even though some of those holiday treats are just delicious and hard to stay away from (or at least limit oneself to only one piece…).
If you are looking for something to slowly start to wean yourself off the sweetness, here is a recipe that my family really loves. It’s super easy to make and – as always – the kids can help!
Ingredients:
- 2 cups of whole wheat flour
- 1/4 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 mashed bananas
- 1/3 cup soft butter or oil
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup of honey
- 1/4 cup of plain yogurt
- 3/4 tsp. baking soda
Mash bananas. Mix all the wet ingredients together in one bowl. Combine all the dry ingredients in a second bowl. Slowly mix the dry ingredients into the wet mix. Pour in buttered loaf pan (8x4x2) and bake at 350 degrees for 50-60 minutes.
Enjoy.
P.S. Use the same measuring cup for the oil first and for the honey second… the honey will come out super easy this way.

This does look good! I’ve been going even a little further with my latest recipes, using stevia (natural sweetener safe for kids and diabetics). The chocolate and bananas in your loaf seems like a great combo!
I experiment with stevia once in a while but I think it just tastes differently… any tips?
You can never go wrong with chocolate — in any form! Looks delicious and healthy!
I totally agree. I think especially with children the ingredient “chocolate” makes everything better
So true! I’d eat just about anything with chocolate in it… And I’m not even a kid anymore! (In theory, that is. :])
